All of basketball loses a “True Giant”, and a great friend:Moses Malone dead at age 60

Moses Malone has died in Norfolk, Virginia at the age of 60 years old….

One of the all-time NBA greats and he hit the pros right out of high school in Petersburg, Virginia and he began his career with the Utah Stars of the American Basketball Association(ABA)…Moses in one of only a handful of players to have scored more than 25,000 points(over 27,000) and collected over 15,000(over 16,000) rebounds in his pro basketball career….

Moses was a three-time NBA MVP and he led the Philadelphia 76er’s to the NBA title in 1983 after coming over to the 76er’s from the Houston Rockets…

Malone was due to attend the University of Maryland and play for Lefty Driesell in college coming out of Petersburg, High School, but somewhere along the way, the money got in the way and Moses never day played a day of college basketball…

In my opinion, the players that I will never forget coming out of Virginia high school basketball were Moses Malone from Petersburg and Ralph Sampson from the Blue Demons in Harrisonburg, Virginia…They put a stamp on the high school basketball being played in Virginia and the players coming out of those high schools back in the day…

To me we all loved Moses Malone and his game because he was a big man that could score and rebound…Moses was so smooth with his sweeping moves and those curving hook shots…In his prime, Moses was the closest thing to a perfect big man that you could find and he truly defined the center position in professional basketball….

Just ask Lefty how good Moses Malone was, I know for a fact that Lefty will start to laugh and then he will break out crying and the tears will flow…Moses Malone was one of the centerpieces that was going to help Lefty Driesell make the University of Maryland, “the UCLA of the East”…..

Moses Malone was a friend to all and he liked to help anybody he could…Just a good big man, with a very big heart….I just had sort of a vision the other day about all of those greats from in the 70’s, the 80’s and the 90’s and I had the feeling many more would be leaving us soon and I am just sorry that Moses Malone had to be the next to go…..

RIP:Moses Malone….
