College Women’s Soccer Final – Salem 4, Guilford 1

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Jordan Lanier tallied one goal and one assist as Guilford College dropped a Sunday afternoon contest to Salem College, 4-1.

Both teams played even out of the gate, but Lanier would earn her first goal in the 12th minute, followed by a Brooke Bukas goal two minutes later to give the Spirits a two-goal lead.

Shot opportunities were not as numerous for the rest of the first, which kept the game within reach. The Quakers came out of halftime with momentum thanks to an own goal from Salem in the 50th minute to cut the deficit in half.

Martha Santos responded for Salem in the 58th minute to re-gain the two goal lead. A Maddie Crumpton goal, with a feed from Lanier, capped the victory for the Spirits in the 67th minute.

Salem held the advantage on shots, 20-10, while Guilford held the edge on corner kicks, 6-3.

Maggie Albert made three saves in net for the Quakers while Cheyenne Grim finished the final 15:30 of the contest. Sarah Slates made two first-half saves for Salem while Kimberlee Templeton entered the contest in the second half to make three stops.

The Quakers (2-2-1) return to action Tuesday, hosting cross-town rival Greensboro College inside Appenzeller Field at Armfield Athletic Center at 7 p.m.
