NCHSAA Performance of the Week

STUDENTS FROM NORTH STANLY, MOUNT PLEASANT EARN PERFORMANCE OF THE WEEK AWARDS

CHAPEL HILL — Antonio Williams of North Stanly High School and Brittany Stanley of Mount Pleasant High School have been named winners of the NCHSAA Performance of the Week awards, powered by Time Warner Cable Sports Channel with Jersey Mike’s Subs®.

Each week one male and one female athlete in North Carolina High School Athletic Association competition are selected for this award from nominations received from media and school administrators.

Williams had a record-breaking night last week as he helped his North Stanly football team rush past rival West Stanly 44-28. The standout running back ran for a whopping 393 yards in 28 carries and scored six touchdowns, establishing a new North Stanly school record for rushing in a single game.

The achievement also earns Williams a performance listing in the NCHSAA Record book, with his rushing total among the top 40 all-time in a single game.

Stanley is a senior cross-country runner for Mount Pleasant who dominated the field in winning the Weddington Cross County Invitational last week at Weddington. The outstanding runner set a new course record in taking first place in the event in a time of 18:26, a full one minute and 17 seconds ahead of the rest of the field.

There were 111 runners competing in the women’s varsity division of the race, with Cuthbertson taking the team title. Stanley had also won the GSM Cross Country Festival earlier this month at Western Carolina University.

TWC Sports Channel typically will announce the winners of the awards during their Tuesday night SportsNight show and will recognize the winners throughout the week. Weekly recipients will also be recognized via Twitter and Facebook.
