GREENSBORO, NC – Robbie Barnes struck two times in the early part of the second half as the Pride men’s soccer team defeated Guilford College, 3-1, on Wednesday night at Macpherson Stadium.

Guilford broke the scoreless tie in the eighteenth minute of play when Mark Dandanell beat Jamie Payamps to the top right corner of goal. The goal by Dandanell proved to be the lone goal of the opening segment as the Pride went into the halftime break trailing 1-0.

After the intermission period, it only took Greensboro nine minutes to find the equalizer. Craig Gage possessed the ball for Greensboro just outside the right corner of the eighteen yard box when he found a dashing Robbie Barnes who placed the ball in the upper right corner of the goal to tie the match at 1-1.

Just nine minutes later, the Pride used the same combination to put Greensboro top 2-1 before Shaun Watt scored off an assist from Scott Fatyol to preserve the 3-1 victory.

“We did some good things in the first half of play besides giving up the goal,” Head Coach Tony Falvino remarked following the win. “In the second half of play we were able to capitalize on our opportunities to come away with the win.”

Greensboro dominated every statistical category including a 21-4 advantage in shots. Carlos Barragan and Shaun Watt each recorded fourth shots in the game while Robbie Barnes and Morgan Stevenson each recorded three.

Jamie Payamps (2-3) picked up his second win in goal for the Pride after stopping two Quakers shots.

The Pride will return to action on Saturday night when they travel to take on the Captains of Christopher Newport University who is currently ranked seventh nationally. For the latest on Pride athletics, continue to follow www.greensborocollegesports.com.
