Women’s Soccer Sets Best Start Since 2010 With, 2-1, Victory Against NC Wesleyan

ROCKY MOUNT, NC – The Greensboro College women’s soccer team secured the best six game start since the 2010 season after earning a road conference victory on Sunday afternoon. The 2010 team started the first six games 4-2.The Pride traveled to North Carolina Wesleyan and was to rally back for a 2-1 overtime victory.

After a scoreless first period of play, the Bishops were able to strike first just 27 seconds into the second half of play. Logan Bill was able to beat the Pride’s Brittany Morrison to put Wesleyan on top 1-0.

As the time ran down to just below ten minutes to play in the contest, Samara Alba recorded her second goal in as many games on a penalty kick to knot the score a 1-1 and send the game into overtime.

Just over two minutes into the extra segment, Melanie Raton possessed a through ball from Megan Cole and scored the game winner for Greensboro.

Head Coach Gus Mota had this to say following the game, “We have talked all season about having heart and tenacity on the road. This is a perfect example of a team digging down a little bit more. Our heart and fight was the difference today.”

Greensboro was out shot in the contest by a narrow 15-12 margin. Megan Cole recorded a team high four shots on the day while Lauren Greeson recorded three.

Freshman goalkeeper, Brittany Morrison, kept the Pride in the game by stopping seven Bishop shots.

With the win, the Pride improves their overall record to 5-1 while starting conference play 1-0. The Pride women will return to the pitch on Friday afternoon at Bryan Park. Greensboro will welcome the Scots of Covenant College to town in the front end of a USA South Athletic Conference double header. The women will get underway at 2:00 PM followed by the men at 4:00 PM.
