Elon’s O’Callaghan Named CAA MSOC Rookie of the Week

RICHMOND, Va. – First-year Nicholas O’Callaghan of the 11th-ranked Elon University men’s soccer team was selected as the Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Week as released by the league office on Monday, Sept. 21.

O’Callaghan helped Elon continued its best start in program history with a pair of wins last week. The Winter Springs, Fla., native helped a Phoenix backline shutout then No. 7 Wake Forest in Elon’s 1-0 victory at the Demon Deacons last Tuesday, Sept. 15. Prior to the match, Wake Forest ranked in the top-five in the nation in goals.

O’Callaghan then tallied his first career points in Elon’s CAA opener versus Drexel at home last Friday, Sept. 18. The rookie had an assist and a goal in the Phoenix’s 3-1 win over the Dragons and helped Elon improve to 7-0 on the season and 1-0 in league play.

This is the third CAA weekly award that the Phoenix has earned this season. Matthew Jegier (Rookie) and Jaiden Fortune (Player) also received accolades by the league earlier this year.
