College Men’s Soccer Final – N.C. Wesleyan 2, Guilford 0

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Sebastian Wiiala’s two goals led visiting North Carolina Wesleyan College past Guilford College, 2-0, in a Wednesday night contest inside Appenzeller Field at Armfield Atheltic Center.

N.C. Wesleyan jumped to a hot start offensively as the Battling Bishops fired four shots in the first nine minutes. The Quakers countered with two close offensive opportunities in the 10th and 12th minutes, which N.C. Wesleyan narrowly stopped.

Both offenses turned stable for the majority of the half, but Wiiala broke the ice in the 40th minute when he received a right-side cross from Daniel Kamdem to claim the lead, 1-0. After the half, Olafur Einarsson created a breakaway opportunity in the 49th minute where he found Wiiala left side to increase the lead.

The Battling Bishops out-shot the Quakers, 16-12. Both teams dueled to a draw on corner kicks, 6-6.

Eric Hayes (Greensboro, N.C./Ragsdale) made three saves in net for the Quakers. His counterpart, Jesper Olsson, also made three saves.

The Quakers (4-3) take the road Saturday afternoon, facing Hampden-Sydney College for a 4 p.m. Old Dominion Athletic Conference contest.
