RICHMOND, Va. – Senior Elyse Bierut of the Elon University women’s cross country team was awarded as the Colonial Athletic Association Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week as announced by the league office on Tuesday, Sept. 22.
Bierut helped the Phoenix to a third-place finish at the adidas XC Challenge last Friday, Sept. 18, in Cary, N.C. The Rocky River, Ohio, native clocked in a time of 17:30.8 in the 5K race – five seconds off her school-record – and was 13th overall at the meet behind runners from nationally-ranked NC State and regionally-ranked Duke. Elon was third overall behind host NC State and Duke while edging out fellow in-state rival and nationally-ranked North Carolina.
This is the second CAA weekly honor for Bierut in her career and the third conference weekly accolade overall.
Both the Elon men’s and women’s programs are back in action next weekend at the Greater Louisville Classic on Saturday, Oct. 3.
