Women’s Soccer Falls To Methodist, 3-1, On Sunday Afternoon

FAYETTEVILLE, NC – The Greensboro College women’s soccer team traveled to a soggy Fayetteville, North Carolina to take on the Monarch of Methodist University in a USA South Athletic Conference showdown on Sunday afternoon. The Pride fell behind early and could not recover falling by a 3-1 mark.

Methodist tallied the lone goal in the first half of play in the 39th minute to take a, 1-0, lead into the halftime break.

After the intermission period, the Monarchs were able to extend their advantage to 3-0 with goals in the 62nd and 70th minutes of play before Greensboro was able to tally their lone goal.

With the Pride trailing 3-0, Julyana Devonish was able to beat the Monarchs keeper to pull Greensboro to within 3-1 but they could not get any closer falling by the two goal margin.

Megan Cole led the way with two shots for the Pride while Lauren Greeson, Samara Alba, Gabbriele Edinger, Melanie Raton, and Julyana Devonish each had one shot.

Ly’Shanette Major (0-1) took the loss in goal for Greensboro depiste making 14 saves.

“We played in spurts today,” Head Coach Gus Mota stated following the contest. “We were able to do some nice things but it was not a complete game like we needed. I am proud of my girls because there is not quitting on this team. We will look at film and get ready for Meredith on Wednesday afternoon.”
