STUDENTS FROM NORTH HENDERSON, TERRY SANFORD EARN NCHSAA PERFORMANCE OF THE WEEK AWARDS

CHAPEL HILL — Caroline Marsh of North Henderson High School and Christian Jayne of Terry Sanford High School in Fayetteville have been named winners of the NCHSAA Performance of the Week awards, powered by Time Warner Cable Sports Channel with Jersey Mike’s Subs®.

Each week one male and one female athlete in North Carolina High School Athletic Association competition are selected for this award from nominations received from media and school administrators.

In two North Henderson volleyball wins last week, Marsh had 59 total kills and 29 total? digs. The junior standout recorded 30 kills and a school-record 18 blocks in a victory at Brevard and followed that up with 29 kills and 13 digs in a win on the road at Smoky Mountain.

On the season, she has produced 225 kills in just 10 matches. She also has 64 blocks for the Lady Knights, who improved their record to 6-4 overall last week.

Jayne, a sophomore, was making just his second start at quarterback for Terry Sanford last week, this one coming against Cumberland County and Cape Fear Valley 3-A rival Westover. He responded in tremendous fashion, as Jayne was a perfect 13 for 13 passing for 244 yards and tossed five touchdowns as his team sprinted past Westover 43-20.

His scoring throws, four in the first half, covered 44, 38, 22, 17 and 12 yards as Terry Sanford won its conference opener and improved to 6-1 overall.

TWC Sports Channel typically announces the winners of the awards during its Tuesday night SportsNight show and will recognize the winners throughout the week. Weekly recipients will also be recognized via Twitter and Facebook.
