College Men’s Golf Results – Guilford Takes Eighth at Gordin Classic

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Guilford College’s men’s golf team shot 290 in Tuesday’s third and final round of the Gordin Collegiate Classic and shared eighth place in the stacked, 12-team field. The Quakers shot 305-289-290-884 and finished 30 strokes behind tournament champion Berry College, which blistered the Columbus Country Club course for a 10-under-par score of 854 over 54 holes.

Methodist University shot 295-285-282-862 placed a distant second, eight strokes behind Berry, followed by Wittenberg University (863) and Rhodes College (864).

Methodist’s Jackson Collier claimed medalist honors with a final-round 67 on the par-72, 7,010-yard layout. His total of 72-68-67-208 edged teammate Mason Stutler (74-68-67-209) by one stroke. Wittenberg’s MarkDavid Wright claimed third with a 69-72-69-210.

Guilford freshman Justin Perdue, a resident of nearby Dublin, Ohio, made his college debut in the tournament and paced the Quakers with an eighth-place finish. He shook off an opening-round 77 and finished with two subpar rounds, including Tuesday’s 71, to shoot 77-67-71-215. Teammate Ty Palmer (Kernersville, N.C./Forsyth Country Day) carded a 75 Tuesday and finished in 21st place with a 74-70-75-219. Sophomore Harrison Frye (High Point, N.C./High Point Central) matched Perdue’s team-low round Tuesday with a 71 that helped him share 36th place at 81-73-71-225. Senior Aaron Abts (Winston-Salem, N.C./Ledford (UNC Pembroke)) had the Quakers’ fourth score Tuesday with a 73 that moved him into 42nd place in the 60-man field with a 75-80-73-228.

The tournament named for longtime Ohio Wesleyan University coach Dick Gordin annually features some of the top NCAA Division III men’s golf teams. This year was no exception as it had eight squads ranked in the top-15 of the Golfstat.com NCAA Division III Head-to-Head Rankings and eight of the top-15 teams in the current Bushnell Golfweek Division III Poll. Guilford is ranked ninth by Golfstat.com and 12th in the Bushnell poll.

Coach Justin Tereshko’s Quakers are back in action Oct. 11-13 at the Golfweek Division III Fall Invitational in Destin, Fla.
