Garner Joins Elon Women’s Basketball Team

ELON, N.C. – Elon women’s basketball head coach Charlotte Smith has announced the addition of 6-0 forward Meme Garner (Siler City, N.C./Jordan-Matthews) to the Phoenix program. A transfer from Charlotte, Garner will sit out the 2015-16 season while serving her year-in-residence requirement per NCAA regulations.

In two seasons with the 49ers, Garner played in 18 games and averaged 3.6 minutes per game. She tallied a career-high seven points off 2-of-3 field goals and 3-of-4 free throws to go along with a career-best five rebounds against Marshall in 2014.

While a four-year starter Jordan-Matthews, she became the program’s all-time leading scorer with 2,210 points. Garner averaged 18.6 points, 5.9 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game as a senior and was named NCPreps.com 2A state Player of the Year, the Mid-State Conference Player of the Year and the District 8 Player of the Year in 2013. She led her high school to a 31-0 record and a 2A state championship, the first in program history, as a junior in 2012. That season she was named the state tournament MVP (Kay Yow Player of the Game) honors after scoring 22 points, grabbing eight rebounds and blocking two shots.
