ROTARY PRESENTS SIXTH BOB SAWYER AWARD FOR 2015 SEASON GUILFORD COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Greensboro, NC –The Rotary Club of Greensboro has selected the sixth winner of the 2015 Bob Sawyer Guilford County Football Player of the Week. The award will be presented at the Rotary Meeting on Wednesday, October 07 at 12:40 pm. The meeting takes place at the Terrace at the Greensboro Coliseum Complex.

Southern Guilford vs. North Forsyth (57-6)

Defensive End Garrett Blackburn played an impressive game against North Forsyth on Monday, September 28th with 7 tackles, 2 sacks, 1 TFL and a blocked kick. Garrett’s intense defense helped keep North Forsyth to only 6 points and allowed the Southern Guilford offense to control the game.

In the words of his coach, “Garrett is an outstanding student that carries over a 3.5 GPA. He is well respected by his peers and teachers. He is also a member of our school’s basketball team and has been a 3 year varsity starter for the football team.”

Info on Award: The Bob Sawyer Award began in the fall of 2013 for Guilford County High School football players. This award is in honor of long-time coach, athletic director and Greensboro Rotarian, Bob Sawyer, who remains a legend in North Carolina high school athletics. Leading Grimsley High School’s swimming teams to 16 consecutive championships and an unprecedented 15 straight NCHSAA state titles, Sawyer was inducted into the East Carolina University Hall of Fame in 1974, and was enshrined in the NC High School Athletic Association Hall of Fame in 1995.
