Elon Softball Quintet Named 2015 NFCA All-America Scholar Athletes

ELON, N.C. – The Elon University softball team had five players earn National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-America Scholar-Athlete honors for the 2014-15 academic year as announced by the association.

Named on the team for the Phoenix were graduated seniors Grace Eng and Caitlin O’Shea along with juniors Alaina Hall and Emily Roper and rising sophomore Madison Kadlic. Each member finished the 2014-15 academic year with a cumulative GPA higher than 3.5 to be recognized.

Eng, who played in only 18 games as a senior due to injuries, finished her career in the program’s top 10 in career putouts. O’Shea wrapped up her career in the circle with a team-best 2.73 ERA among players who pitched 10 or more innings and the tied the program’s all-time career saves record with six.

Hall paced the Phoenix in batting average (.358), hits (62) and triples (four) last season and earned second team All-Colonial Athletic Association accolades. Roper was the team-leader in homers with eight and was a CAA All-Academic selection. Kadlic started all but one game last year as a rookie mostly at second base.

NCAA Division I, with 1,554 honorees, had the most student-athletes with a 3.5 grade-point average or higher, while 1,018 in Division III earned recognition, followed by 833 Division II student-athletes. High School weighted and High School unweighted posted 691 and 627 honorees apiece. NAIA amassed 410 recipients and Junior College totaled 360.
