College Women’s Soccer Final – Guilford 8, Johnson & Wales 0

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Christian Heggie (Greenville, N.C./Washington) and Morgan Henderson (Greensboro, N.C./Southeast Guilford) both scored twice in Guilford College’s 8-0 women’s soccer win over visiting Johnson & Wales (N.C.) University Friday night.

Heggie, who also had an assist for a career-high five points, notched her second straight game with two goals to help Guilford (5-6-1) post its second straight win and third victory in five outings.

The visiting Wildcats (2-7), in their first varsity season, kept the Quakers quiet for most of the first half, despite allowing a Henderson tally just 2:24 into the match. Heggie notched her first goal about 30 minutes later off a Kelli Uresti assist, which sent Guilford into halftime with a 2-0 edge.

Guilford’s Henderson and Morgan Sleeth netted two quick goals less than 10 minutes into the second half, which doubled the Quakers’ lead. Heggie’s second score, which came off a scramble following a corner kick, triggered a four-goal outburst in a seven-minute, 25-second span that finished the scoring. Uresti, who scored the spurt’s second goal, finished with four points on the night with a goal and two assists.

The Quakers did not allow a second-half shot and finished with a 38-2 shots advantage. Goalie Maggie Albert made both of the team’s saves and shared the shutout with teammates Becca Banks and Cheyenne Grim.

Kylie Priddy yielded all seven scores and made 11 of the Wildcats’ 12 saves before giving way to Megan Horsfall for the final 12 minutes.

Coach Mike Shenigo’s team has notched its most wins since 2011 and resumes Old Dominion Athletic Conference play Wednesday (10/14) at Roanoke College.
