Elon and Brooks Set Records, Tab Top-Three Finishes at Pinehurst Women’s GolfChallenge

PINEHURST, N.C. – Senior Emily Brooks and the Phoenix set new 54-hole Division I program records as the Elon University women’s golf team tabbed a third place finish of 866 (+2) after the final round of competition on Tuesday, Oct. 13, at the Pinehurst Challenge.

The Phoenix shattered a previous 54-hole team record of 883 (+19). The 866 (+2) mark at the Pinehurst Challenge was an outstanding 17 strokes better than the previous record set at the 2014 William & Mary Invitational.

Brooks’ 54-hole total of 209 (-7) broke the previous record of 211 set by Tara McFadden at the 2009 Lady Pirate Invitational. The senior out of Chapel Hill, N.C., earned the silver medal finishing runner-up individually for the tournament, and just three strokes behind individual champion, William & Mary’s Alessandra Liu.

The Highlights
Brooks earned her highest finish individually for her career with the second place finish. She topped her previous best mark, which was fifth at the Golfweek Program Challenge on Sept. 8.

Kelsey Badmaev tabbed her second consecutive top-10 finish individually, tying for fifth at -5 (74-67-70–211) for the tournament. After struggling the first day, she bounced back with a five-under par second and two-under par final round. Moving up three spots on the final day earned her a top-five finish for the first time this season.

Heather Munro finished tied for 29th shooting three-over par (74-73-72–219) for the tournament. She showed improvement as the tournament progressed improving by one stroke each round.

Sunna Vidisdottir completed the tournament in a tie for 63rd (+11). Marah Penn, who saw action in her first collegiate tournament as a Phoenix, posted a three-round total of 229 and finished in a tie for 70th place.
