HPU Men’s Golf Completes Day One At Donald Ross Invite

• The squad shot a two-round combined score of 601 (304-297) and currently sits in 13th place
• Sophomore Emile Menard is competing as an individual and is t-4th with a two-round combined score of 139 (68-71)
• Senior McKay Tye leads the Panthers team contingent with a combined score of 144 (73-71)
• The third round will begin Tuesday (Oct. 12) with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start

MORGANTON, N.C. – The High Point University men’s golf team wrapped up day one of play at the Donald Ross Intercollegiate with a two-round combined score of 601 (304, 297). The Purple & White currently sit in 13th place at the event.

Sophomore Emile Menard is competing as an individual and is currently leading the Panthers with a two-round score of 139 (68-71, -1). Menard sits t-4th in the competition while carding 23 pars, six birdies and an eagle after 36-holes. He is t-4th in par-5 scoring (-3) and t-7th in par-4 scoring (E).

“We had a very tough day today and have a lot to prepare for tomorrow” head coach Greg Flesher. “Emile Menard is three strokes out of the lead and is tied for fourth as an individual player. Within the first 36-holes Emile played extremely well and is definitely one to watch for tomorrow.”

Senior McKay Tye followed his first round performance with a +1 (71) in the second round to finish with a two-round score of 144. Tye achieved 23 pars, six birdies and currently sits t-23rd. Freshmen Jack Speer and Davis Kiger finished day one with two-round combined scores of 150. Speer (76-74) and Kiger (77-73) are currently placed t-50th.

Connor Alexander, a sophomore, finished day one with a 36-hole total of 157 (78-79) and is currently tied for 68th. Redshirt-sophomore AJ Hopkins carded matching round scores of 79 to sit t-72nd with a 36-hole score of 158.

Jacksonville currently holds the tournament lead with a 36-hole total of 560. Appalachian State (563), Gardner-Webb (568), Wofford (574) and Wingate College (575) round off the top-5.

The Panthers will continue at the Mimosa Hills Golf and Country Club tomorrow, for the final 18-hole round.
