Menard Leads HPU Men’s Golf At Donald Ross Intercollegiate

• Emile Menard competed as an individual and finished t-10th, carding a career best three-round score of 212 (68-71-73).
• High Point posted a combined score of 890 (304-297-289) to finish 12th
• The Panthers will play next weekend (Oct. 19-20) at the Phoenix Intercollegiate in Burlington, N.C.

MORGANTON, N.C. – The High Point University men’s golf team wrapped up the Donald Ross Invitational Tuesday, completing the event with a three-round score of 890 (304-297-289) to finish 12th overall.

Sophomore Emile Menard competed as an individual and continued his solid play to end the intercollegiate, carding a career best three-round score of 212 (68-71-73). Menard re-wrote his career best scores, improving five strokes on his 18-hole best and 10 strokes on his 36-hole recrod this week. The Ange-Gardien, Quebec, native finished the 54-hole tour with 31 pars, 10 birdies and an eagle. He placed t-2nd in par 5 scoring (-4), t-7th in par 4 scoring (+3) and finished the intercollegiate t-10th in the individual standings, which is another career best for Menard.

“Today we finished on a much more positive note, with a much improved 289 score,” said head coach Greg Flesher. “The field was lead by McKay Tye today, shooting a 70. Emile Menard who was competing as an individual shot a 73 last round, and had an impressive tournament becoming a top-10 finisher. Unfortunately our first round was too much to overcome, but we are ready to get right back into action at Elon’s tournament this weekend.”

Senior McKay Tye led the squad, carding a third round score of 70 to finish t-15th with a combined total of 214 (+4). Tye completed the intercollegiate carding 36 pars and eight birdies. He finished t-5th in par 3 scoring (+3), t-5th in par four scoring (+1) and t-6th in par 5 scoring (E).

Freshmen Jack Speer and Davis Kiger finished with matching combined scores of 222. Speer (76-74-72) and Kiger (77-73-72) finished their 54-hole circuit t-46th. Connor Alexander, a sophomore, finished t-65th with a three-round combined score of 232 (78-79-75). AJ Hopkins, a redshirt-sophomore, finished t-71st with a combined score of 235 (79-79-77). Hopkins finished t-1st in par five scoring (-5).

Jacksonville earned the Intercollegiate win with a three-round score of 845. Gardner-Webb (846), Appalachian State (850), Wingate University (859), and Wofford College (862) rounded off the top-5.

The Panthers will wrap up their fall tour next weekend (Oct. 19-20) at the Phoenix Intercollegiate in Burlington, N.C.
