College Men’s Golf Results – Guilford Takes Seventh at Golfweek Invitational

DESTIN, Fla. – Guilford College’s Ty Palmer (Kernersville, N.C./Forsyth Country Day) shot one-over-par 72 in Tuesday’s third and final round of the Golfweek Division III Fall Invitational.

The Quakers’ junior placed sixth in the 90-man field with a 72-69-72-213 and helped the Quakers place seventh among 18 teams. Guilford shot 294-295-289-878 and finished 15 shots behind tournament champion University of St. Thomas (Minn.). The Tommies had the day’s low round, a two-under 282, and overtook the University of Texas-Tyler and Methodist University by one stroke, 863-864.

The 54-hole tournament on the par-71, 6.635-yard Raven Golf Course featured 15 of the top-21 teams in the latest Bushnell Golfweek Division III Coaches’ Poll.

Second-round leader Chris Harris of Rhodes College shot an even-par 71 Tuesday and claimed medalist honors in the 90-man field. Four students, including second-round co-leader Buddy Hallman of Texas-Tyler, shot 212 and finished four strokes behind Harris tied for second place. Palmer claimed sole possession of sixth place with a 72-69-72-213.

Quakers’ junior Tanner Gross (Archdale, N.C./Homeschooled) shot an even-par 71 Tuesday to lead Guilford’s best score of the event (289), which was the second-low round of the day. After Palmer’s 72, Aaron Abts (Winston-Salem, N.C./Ledford (UNC Pembroke)) and Harrison Frye (High Point, N.C./High Point Central) both shot 73. Rookie Justin Perdue shot 74 and finished tied with Gross for 30th place among individuals at 220.

Coach Justin Tereshko’s Quakers wrap up their fall schedule next Monday and Tuesday (10/19-20) as they host the O’Briant-Jensen Memorial at the Sedgefield Golf and Country Club-Pete Dye Course.
