College Men’s Soccer Final – Roanoke 1, Guilford 0

GREENSBORO, N.C.- – Sam Rauf scored in the 80th minute to give visiting Roanoke College a 1-0 soccer win over Guilford College Tuesday night.

Rauf also netted the lone tally in the Maroons’ 1-0 league win over Bridgewater Saturday. He banged in a loose ball in the six-yard box after Tyler Carbagh’s corner kick deflected off a Quakers’ defender, which forced Guilford goalie Eric Hayes to make a diving stop. The ball squirted back inside the six where Rauf won it and slotted it home for his third goal of the year.

The Maroons (8-4-1, 4-1-1 ODAC) controlled play for the better part of the time in a largely defensive contest. Roanoke had 20 shots, but just four on goal. Guilford managed six shots, none on target.

Roanoke goalie Cole Sinclair earned his fifth shutout of the season, despite not making a save. Eric Hayes had three stops for the Quakers.

Guilford (5-7, 2-4 ODAC) looks to snap a four-match slide as it visits league-rival Shenandoah University Friday (10/16) in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference match.
