BATCHELOR, LADY HAWKS WELCOME VONTREECE HAYES(Northern Guilford HS/Greensboro College) TO COACHING STAFF

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – Fred Batchelor and the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) welcomed Vontreece Hayes to the Hawk family as she will join the women’s basketball coaching staff, the announcement came today. Hayes joins Associate Head Coach Revonda Whitley and Assistant Coach Cedric Jenkins on Batchelor’s team.

“Vontreece is a dependable and unique individual who wants to be a coach,” said Batchelor. “As a male coaching women, I believe it is my responsibility to provide young women the opportunity to be a part of this wonderful profession of coaching and developing young women. I am encouraged by Vontreece’s desire to want to become a basketball coach.”

Recently, Vontreece was part of the semi-professional women’s basketball USA Elite in Greensboro, N.C. Also, Hayes joined the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association’s (WBCA) So You Want To Be a Coach Program where she met Coach Batchelor.

“I am humbly grateful,” Hayes stated. “I am going to be under a well groomed staff with so much experience. They are a close knit group of coaches.”

Last season, Hayes played her final collegiate season for the Greensboro Pride where they won the 2015 USA South Conference Regular Season and Tournament Title. The team captain started all 28 contests while helping the squad finish 24-5 overall, including an unblemished home record.

Since 2008, she has volunteered with the National Carolina Basketball Association tournament under former Utah Jazz and Wake Forest guard Delaney Rudd. Since 2009, she taught Team Reign Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) 12u and 16u girls. For three years (2009-11), she coached North Carolina Basketball Association AAU Phoenix Select 12u.

In high school, Hayes attended Northern Guilford where she specialized in Marketing and Business Administration. Furthermore, she became the first female basketball player to sign a National Letter of Intent (NLI) from her alma mater.

In May 2015, Hayes completed her undergraduate with a Bachelor of Science in Business and Administration and Economics.

“I am excited for the season,” Hayes added. “We have a great group of players that are hard workers and relentless.”

  1. Great news for Vontreece! I know she will do well. Great to see such a hard worker achieve her goals. I have been following her college career and she got better every time I saw her play. It shows that hard work pays off.
