College Women’s Soccer Final – Randolph 1, Guilford 0

LYNCHBURG, Va. – A Delaney Doyle second-half goal proved to be Randolph College’s game-winner as Guilford College fell to host Randolph, 1-0, in a Wednesday evening Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) contest.

Momentum swung back and forth in the scoreless first half as the Quakers (5-7-1, 2-4 ODAC) fired the first three shots of the half in the first 18 minutes with the WildCats (5-7-1, 3-3 ODAC) following with four shots over the next 20 minutes. Only one save was made in the first period, with Maggie Albert making the save for the Quakers in the 37th minute, capping the stretch of four-straight Randolph shots.

The Quakers started the second half with a close opportunity at the net off of a corner kick in the first minute of the period. Randolph countered quickly when Meghan Curtin flicked a ball to Doyle in the box, who had a wide open run towards the goal to put the WildCats on top.

Both teams traded four shots a piece heading into the final ten minutes where the Quakers created multiple opportunities after Randolph hit the crossbar in the 85th minutes. Guilford mustered three shots and held the game’s final corner kick with 23 seconds left, but Randolph stopped the Quakers’ attack.

The Quakers narrowly held the shot advantage, 12-11, and claimed the edge on corner kicks, 5-3.

Albert made two saves in net for the Quakers while Quinn-Lynn Bates also stopped two shots for the WildCats.

Guilford looks to rebound Saturday, traveling to Randolph-Macon College for a 4 p.m. contest.
