Page’s Diondre Overton Wins the 8th Bob Sawyer Award of the 2015 Season

Greensboro, NC – The Rotary Club of Greensboro has selected the eighth winner of the 2015 Bob Sawyer Guilford County Football Player of the Week. The award will be presented at the Rotary Meeting on Wednesday, October 28 at 12:40 pm. The meeting takes place at the Terrace at the Greensboro Coliseum Complex.

Page vs. Southeast Guilford (49-7)

Wide receiver Diondre Overton made an impressive showing on both sides of the ball against Southeast Guilford on October 9th, with 2 touchdowns, 5 receptions for 132 yards, 1 sack, 4 tackles and 1 interception. Diondre’s dynamic performance helped secure a 49-7 win over the Falcons, moving Page to a 6-1 standing for the season.

In the words of his coach, “Diondre is a great young man and a leader on and off the field. He had a terrific game and did the most with the opportunities he had. He is very deserving of this honor.”

Info on Award: The Bob Sawyer Award began in the fall of 2013 for Guilford County High School football players. This award is in honor of long-time coach, athletic director and Greensboro Rotarian, Bob Sawyer, who remains a legend in North Carolina high school athletics. Leading Grimsley High School’s swimming teams to 16 consecutive championships and an unprecedented 15 straight NCHSAA state titles, Sawyer was inducted into the East Carolina University Hall of Fame in 1974, and was enshrined in the NC High School Athletic Association Hall of Fame in 1995.
