HIGH POINT, N.C. – The High Point University volleyball team wrapped up its 4-match homestand in style with a 3-0 triumph over Presbyterian on Saturday in the Millis Center.

The Panthers (15-7, 4-1) cruised to wins in the first and second set (25-14 and 25-12) before battling to best the Blue Hose (3-17, 1-6) for a 25-22 third-set victory. The squad went 4-0 in the homestand and is off to its best start in conference play since 2010 when the team opened league play 7-1.

“Today’s match is a special for us with it being our Dig Pink match,” head coach Jason Oliver said. “It’s always an emotional match for our team and we want to show the maximum amount of respect as we can by playing the best that we can. I think our team showed that today as we showed a lot of heart and passion in earning the victory.”

Along with being an emotional win, it was a milestone afternoon for senior Annemarie Chin. The libero’s 21 digs pushed her past Audie Gonzalez for second on HPU’s Division I career digs list with 1,727. Led by Chin and redshirt-junior Savannah Angel’s five blocks, the Purple & White held PC to a .026 attack percentage.

Freshman Abby Broadstreet had her best match as a Panther racking up 12 kills while hitting at a .435 clip. Sophomore Camryn Freiberg continued her stellar play with nine kills and just one attack error. Meanwhile, freshman Molly Livingston chipped in with six kills, three aces and three blocks.

HPU earned a +5 margin in digs (57-52) and a 39-28 edge in kills while registering a .255 attack percentage.

Three early kills from Barnes vaulted HPU out to a 10-6 lead. From there, the Panthers were able to pull away for a 25-14. The defense, led by nine digs from Chin, held the Blue Hose to a .050 attack percentage while Broadstreet posted five kills in the set.

Livingston opened the second set with a thunderous kill to set the tone for the match. Angel took over after that racking up four blocks as HPU raced out to a 10-0 lead. The Panthers’ advantage peaked at 14 (13-9) as they cruised to a 25-12 set victory.

The two teams battle back and forth in the third set and found the score tied at 13-all midway through the frame. However, HPU scored five of the next seven points to build an 18-15 lead. PC wouldn’t go away and fought to within one (23-22) before the Panthers sealed the match with a 25-22 win.

The Panthers will hit the road for their next six matches beginning with a makeup game at Charleston Southern on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m.
