HPU Men’s Golf Finishes T-14th At Phoenix Invitational

• Senior McKay Tye posted a third round score of 74 and led the Panrhers with a t-31st finish
• High Point completes the tournament t-14th with a 54-hole combined score of 926
• HPU improved each round and finished with a Tuesday score of 304

BURLINGTON, N.C. – The High Point University men’s golf team completed the Elon Phoenix Invitational with a three-round combined score of 926 (317-305-304) to finish t-14th overall.

Senior McKay Tye led the Panthers while posting a final score of 222 (73-75-74) to place t-31st. Tye registered 36 pars, four birdies and an eagle during his 54-hole tour. The Asheville, N.C., native carded a t-8th finish in par-3 scoring, a t-10th finish in par-4 scoring and was t-7th amongst the field in par-5 scoring.

“Mckay Tye played another steady round today,” said head coach Greg Flesher. “He executed great course management skills, which led him to shoot a 74 today. We continued our steady improvement, doing better each round, and overcame our first round performance.”

Freshman Davis Kiger and sophomore Emile Menard posted matching third round scores of 76. Kiger (78-75-76) registered a t-54th finish while Menard (78-79-76) finished t-71st. Sophomore Connor Alexander carded a combined three-round score of 244 (89-77-78) to finish 87th. AJ Hopkins, a redshirt-sophomore, finished with a 54-hole total of 245 (88-78-79) to finish t-88th.

No. 47 East Carolina earned the tournament win with a combined score of 833. Charleston Southern (856), VCU (861), Elon (877) and Radford (885) rounded off the top-5.

The Phoenix Invitational is the final fall tournament for the Panthers. High Point will continue its spring season after the winter break.
