BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Sophomore Cayla Smith posted her second top-25 of the fall season to lead the High Point University women’s golf team on final day action at the Fighting Camel Classic Tuesday.

Smith finished with a combined score of 234 (75-77-82) to finish t-20th in the field of 84 golfers. She ended the tournament t-8th in par-4 scoring (+9) and t-10th in total pars (33).

Senior Tan Cheeranont posted a strong final round score of 76 to move up eight spots on the leaderboard and end the tournament t-35th. She posted a three-round total of 237 (78-83-76) and was t-18th in total pars (31).

“Tan finished off the tournament on a positive note,” head coach Vici Pate Flesher said. “She played more like she did at the beginning of the season – nice, steady simple golf. Cayla had a few wild swings that got her into trouble, but she played pretty decent. She just didn’t have the rhythm she had the first two days.”

Freshman Jenny Zhang posted a third-round 81 and placed t-62nd with a combined score of 247 (81-85-81).

The Panthers competed as a trio and were not eligible to post a team score at the event.

Junior Danielle Fuss competed as an individual and shot a final round 80. Fuss had just one bad hole while posting four birdies and 10 pars on the day. Her 36-hole score was 155 (75-80).

HPU has completed its fall season and will resume play during the 2016 spring campaign in February.
