Elon Volleyball Phoenix Falls at Towson

TOWSON, Md. – The Elon volleyball team was not able to stop a high-powered Towson offense, dropping a road match 3-0 (13-25, 19-25, 19-25) to the Tigers tonight, Oct. 23, in SECU Arena.

Ally Karle led the Phoenix (5-18, 1-8) with 11 kills off 19 attempts and had only one error to hit .526 in the match. Kam Terry finished with eight kills, while Sydel Curry tallied her seventh double-double of the season after a match-high 26 assists and 11 digs.

Four maroon and gold players posted double-digit dig performances in the match. Along with Curry, Sydney Busa and libero Maddie Jaudon each had 11 digs, while Kayla Agae tallied 10.

The Tigers (20-4, 7-3) saw a match-high 13 kills by Jessica Lewis who also had a double-double with 12 digs. Kyana Miller also had a double-double with 23 assists and 12 digs, while Anna Holehouse recorded 19 digs on the night.

How it happened: In the first set, two kills by both Busa and Karle helped Elon to a 6-4 edge. With the score even at eight-all, the Tigers used a 17-5 run to close out the set and take a 25-13 win.

Three kills by Karle in the span of four points pulled the Phoenix within two of Towson, 15-13, in the second set. The Tigers managed a 5-1 run to take a 20-14 advantage before a kill by Michelle Klein and two Tiger errors put the maroon and gold back within three, 20-17. However, TU was able to take five of the next seven to win 25-19.

With the third set tied at four-all, the Tigers managed to score four straight to move ahead 8-4 and force an Elon timeout. Towson maintained its advantage and claimed as much as a seven-point lead, 22-15. The Phoenix used a kill by Terry and TU mistakes to score the next three and close the gap to four, 22-18, before the Tigers went on to win 25-19 and claim the match.
