CLINTON, S.C. – The High Point University women’s soccer team travelled to Presbyterian College and left with a 3-0 win on Saturday night in Clinton, S.C. Sophomore Michele Micciche had a goal and an assist in the win for the Panthers.

“This was a great performance by the team tonight,” head coach Marty Beall said. “I am proud of how hard the girls worked from the first whistle to the last and that was the difference in the game. I really feel like we took a big step forward tonight.”

The win moves High Point to 11-3-4 on the season overall and 6-2-1 in the Big South. HPU needs just one more win to match its all-time record for wins in a season, which the team accomplished in 1993 and again in 2014. Presbyterian College drops to 6-10-1 overall and 2-6-1 in conference play with the loss.

High Point took control of the game early with a goal by Micciche in the fourth minute. Sophomore Becca Rolfe used a flip throw to get the ball into the box where Micciche finished for her team-best fifth goal of the season.

The Panthers doubled their lead in the 58th minute as sophomore Bri Jean-Charles found the net for the fourth time on the season. Micciche headed a goal kick down to the feet of Jean-Charles who outran the defenders before scoring with a shot from just inside the penalty area.

Sophomore Bailey Beattie added an insurance goal in the 89th minute to make the final margin 3-0 on the night. Fellow sophomore Becca Sweredoski crossed a ball in from the right and Beattie leaped up to head it in for her second goal on the season.

High Point had 17 shots with nine on goal in the win. The Panthers, who entered the night fourth in the NCAA in goals-against average, held Presbyterian College to just seven shots and four on target to pick up their 12th shutout of the season. Sophomore Alex Persiani had four saves to notch her conference-best 10th clean sheet of the season.

High Point returns home to wrap up the regular season with a game against Campbell on Tuesday, Oct. 27, at 7 p.m. The Panthers can clinch home field in the first round of the Big South Tournament with a win over the Camels. The game against Campbell will be Senior Day and HPU will honor its five seniors in a ceremony before the match.
