Elon Women’s Soccer Falls 1-0 to Towson

TOWSON, Md. – Vasthy Delgado’s strike in the 67th minute in the second half proved to be the difference in the match as the Elon University women’s soccer team fell to Towson 1-0 on Sunday, Oct. 25, at the Tiger Soccer Complex.

With the loss, Elon has now been eliminated from any chance of earning a spot in the CAA Women’s Soccer Championships. The Phoenix fall to 9-7-2 overall and 1-6-1 in conference play. Towson finished the season 7-8-4 overall and 1-6-2 in the CAA with the win.

Highlights
The Phoenix created their first great chance of the match in the 20th minute. Susannah Anderson’s header off a corner kick was cleared off the line by a Towson defender.

Elon and Towson went into the half all tied up 0-0. The Phoenix had the lead in the shot count 9-4 over the Tigers but couldn’t put their chances away.

In the second half, Tori Baliatico had another great chance for the Phoenix. The Tigers’ goalkeeper was caught off her line in the 52nd minute and Baliatico tried to hit a shot but it missed to the left of the goal.

Taylor Mohr came up with a big save in the 57th minute denying a long free kick from Delgado and tipping the ball off the crossbar.

Towson made the breakthrough in the 67th minute as Delgado dribbled a ball to the right side of the box, took a touch to her left, and blasted a shot into the lower left corner to beat Mohr.

Elon had a flurry of chances late in the match, but in the end couldn’t find the back of the net, falling 1-0 to Towson. The Tigers outshot the Phoenix 19-16 in the match.
