Elon Women’s Soccer Phoenix Drops Season Finale to Tribe, 2-0

ELON, N.C. – The Elon University women’s soccer team ended its season with a 2-0 setback to William & Mary on Tuesday, Oct. 27, at Rudd Field. The Phoenix finishes the season 9-8-2 overall with the setback, while the Tribe improves to 13-3-2 to win a share of the CAA regular season title with Hofstra.

How it Happened
Both Elon and William & Mary could not get into the danger zone in the first half to give their team the advantage. The Tribe collected three corners in the first 45 minutes, but the Phoenix defense stifled each opportunity.

Elon’s lone chance came up just shy as a Grace Bennett attempt interception on a W&M clearing attempt was saved by the Tribe at the last moment.

W&M took a 1-0 lead in the 76th minute following an Elon foul inside the box near the left post. Nicole Baxter took the penalty kick for the Tribe and put it behind a diving Taylor Mohr near the left post for the match’s first score.

The Tribe gave itself insurance late in the 89th minute when Rachel Moore broke through the Elon defense on the left side to put it behind a diving Mohr to make it a 2-0 game.
