College Men’s Soccer Final – Lynchburg 1, Guilford 0

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Lynchburg College’s Bryan Hall scored the game-winning goal late in the second half as Guilford College dropped a Tuesday evening Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) contest, 1-0.

The Quakers (5-11, 2-8 ODAC) kept the Hornets (9-3-4, 5-2-3 ODAC) in check for the entire first half, limiting the Lynchburg shot advantage, 6-4. The majority of shots from each side came early in the period with the final 15 minutes of the frame only yielding one shot a piece.

Both teams eased into the first ten minutes of the second half, but Lynchburg turned up the heat in the next 19 minutes by firing nine unanswered shots. The Quakers countered for their final shot of the period and the Quakers held through two more Lynchburg shots before Thomas Salamone fed a long centering pass to Hall, breaking the ice. Defense was the theme of the final ten minutes with Lynchburg firing the lone shot while preserving the victory.

Lynchburg outshot the Quakers, 21-6, and held the edge on corner kicks, 9-1.

Eric Hayes (Greensboro, N.C./Ragsdale) made six saves in net for the Quakers. Lynchburg’s Cory Budka stopped four shots.

The Quakers conclude the regular season Saturday with a 5 p.m. ODAC contest at Virginia Wesleyan College.
