College Women’s Soccer Final – Guilford 2, Eastern Mennonite 1

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Kelli Uresti scored twice and Becca Banks made four saves in Guilford College’s 2-1 Old Dominion Athletic Conference soccer win over visiting Eastern Mennonite University Tuesday night.

Uresti notched her team-leading seventh and eighth goals of the season just over 16 minutes apart early in the first half. She took a Juliana Anfom-Evans crossing pass in the fourth minute and knocked it home from eight yards away for the opening tally. Rookie Morgan Sleeth set up Uresti’s second score with a crossing pass and the Quakers’ senior punched it home from about 15 yards away. Uresti’s two tallies moved her into sixth place among Guilford’s career goal scorers with 23.

The scored remained 2-0 well into the second half when the Royals’ (1-14-1, 0-8-1 ODAC) offense picked up steam. Banks made a diving stop off an Amanda Williams shot from close range in the 76th minute and punched a 25-yard Logann Braun blast over the cage three minutes later. Williams scored off of Morgan Hill’s ensuing corner kick, which changed the game’s tenor. Despite the Royals’ pressure, Sleeth unleashed the game’s lone shot in the final 12 minutes.

Guilford had 12 of the game’s 21 shots, but the Royals outshot Guilford in the second half, 6-4. The Quakers had seven corners to Eastern Mennonite’s three, all in the second half. Becca Borg had four saves for the visitors.

Coach Mike Shenigo’s Quakers (7-9-1, 4-6 ODAC) have their most overall and league wins in a season since 2011. Guilford has a chance at one of eight ODAC Tournament berths entering Saturday’s (10/31) regular-season finale at Shenandoah University.
