College Cross Country Results—Guilford Women Eighth, Men Ninth at ODAC Championships

BRIDGEWATER, Va. – Guilford College’s Rebecca Reyna (Liberty, N.C./Southern Alamance) and Sommer Fanney (Burlington, N.C./Williams) each shattered the school’s previous six-kilometer record as Guilford’s women placed eighth with 196 points in the 2015 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Championships held at Bridgewater College. Guilford’s men placed ninth with 274 points.

Reyna claimed Guilford’s top finish, placing 16th with a time of 24:33.7, 33.6 seconds faster than the previous school record set five years ago. The senior now owns two of Guilford’s top-five all-time finishes in six-kilometer races. She was just under seven seconds from 14th place.

Fanney’s 19th-place finish also bested the five-year-old record with a time of 24:40.1, 26.9 seconds faster than the Guilford’s previous top all-time finish. The sophomore was in a close race to the finish line for 18th place, only being edged by .1 second. Her average time per kilometer (4:06.7) was only 1.1 seconds behind Reyna.

Caleb Amstutz captured his first leading finish for the Quakers in 2015, placing 52nd with a time of 28:26.8. He was 3.2 seconds away from cracking the top-50 and 3.8 seconds from 48th place as part of ten-runner pack from 46th to 55th place that finished within a 10.7-second range.

Trent Evans (Winston-Salem, N.C./R.J. Reynolds) and Nick Reynolds finished .8 seconds apart from each other with Evans placing 60th with a time of 28:47.5 and Reynolds just behind at 28:48.3.

Head Coach Danny Cash’s Quakers now gear up for the NCAA Division III South/Southeast Regional Championships at Kernstown Battlefield in Winchester, Va., hosted by fellow ODAC-member Shenandoah University, Saturday, November 14th.
