College Women’s Soccer Final—Shenandoah 3, Guilford 1

WINCHESTER, Va. – Shenandoah University’s Danielle Burris tallied two goals and one assist, all in the second half, as Guilford College dropped a Saturday afternoon Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) contest, 3-1. The Quakers (7-10-1, 4-7 ODAC) conclude the season with their most overall wins and ODAC victories since 2011 as the Quakers tied for eighth in the league, also their best finish since 2011.

The Quakers and Hornets (12-6-1, 9-1-1 ODAC) played a tight first half as Shenandoah mustered seven shots while holding the Quakers without an attempt. Becca Banks and the defense stood tall for the Quakers, with Banks stopping two first half shots. Four of Shenandoah’s shots came in the first 24 minutes as both offenses became quiet for most of the latter part of the period before the Hornets produced two more shots in the last five minutes to close the half.

The offense opened up right as the second half started when Burris and Kelsie Luddington fed Dornesha Cottoms for the match’s first goal ten seconds into the second half. Burris tallied her first goal 1:26 later and added her second goal in the 69th minute off feeds from Shannon De Leon and Allison Shomo.

Guilford hung in the contest late with a response in the 76th minute when Emily Vaughn connected with Christian Heggie to keep the Quakers in the contest late.

Shenandoah held the edge on shots, 17-3, and held the match’s only corner kick.

Becca Banks made six saves in net for the Quakers while Shenandoah’s Nicole Pratt stopped one shot.
