Football Wins On Senior Day Over Methodist

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Greensboro College eked out a 26-22 Senior Day football victory Saturday at Jamieson Stadium against Methodist University in the Pride’s final home game of the season.

The Pride (3-6) found the end zone first when running back Kenneth Purvis ran 76 yards down the left sideline. The unsuccessful PAT left the Pride on top 6-0.

Later in the second quarter, Mac Graham connected with Raymond Bridges in the back left corner of the end zone for a 32-yard touchdown pass. Kicker Ryan Campbell’s PAT made the score 13-0.

On the next drive, Methodist University (3-6) answered with a 1-yard touchdown run to pull within 13-7 with 9:28 remaining in the first half.

But the Pride answered with a 60-yard drive capped by a 33-yard touchdown pass from Graham to receiver Armani Williams, who scored with a defender on his hip. A failed two-point conversion attempt left the Pride on top 19-7. A Methodist field goal made it 19-10 with just more than four minutes remaining in the half.

After a long kickoff return, Purvis found the end zone again for the Pride to extend the lead to 26-10. A turnover deep in Pride territory gave Methodist a 28-yard field goal as the half expired to make it 26-13.

Methodist struck first in the second half on a 13-yard touchdown pass to pull within 26-20.

In the fourth quarter, deep in Greensboro territory, Graham dropped back into the end zone to pass but was sacked for a safety to make the score 26-22.

With limited time remaining and Methodist threatening, the Pride defense came up huge with a fumble recovery and an interception on back-to-back Methodist drives to preserve the win.

The Pride will play its final game of the season at 1:30 p.m. Nov. 14 at Maryville University. For more information on Greensboro College athletics, continue to follow greensborocollegesports.com
