Men’s Soccer One Win From Dancing

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Greensboro College men’s soccer team defeated the Bishops of North Carolina Wesleyan 3-1 Friday in the semifinal round of the USA South Athletic Conference Tournament.

With the win, the Pride moves on to the championship game.

Shaun Watt got Greensboro on the board with his first goal of the day off an assist from Scott Fatyol.

In the 46th minute, Carlos Barragan, who won the USA South Rookie of the Year honor, recorded his 10th goal of the season to push the Pride lead to 2-0. He then assisted on Watt’s second goal of the afternoon in the 75th minute.

However, Greensboro lost the shutout as Daniel Kamdem tallied for the Bishops in the 89th minute.

“I am happy with the boys’ performance today,” Head Coach Tony Falvino said. “Both teams came out to play a good style of soccer. It was great to see our guys keep the ball on the ground and create opportunities. Now we move our focus on tomorrow.”

Shaun Watt and Carlos Barragan each recorded a team-high three shots, while Morgan Stevenson, Scott Fatyol, Mike Tzablas, Ryan Mule, and Camden Brooks recorded one shot each. Jaime Payamps made three saves to pick up the win in goal.

The Pride (14-4-1) will play for the USA South title, and a berth in the 2015 NCAA Division III Tournament, at 2 p.m. Saturday on Pride Field. For the latest on the Greensboro College men’s soccer team, continue to follow www.greensborocollegesports.com.
