NCHSAA State 2-A Girl’s Dual Team Tennis Championship

LAKE NORMAN CHARTER TAKES 2-A DUAL TEAM TENNIS TITLE AGAIN

BURLINGTON — The long-delayed North Carolina High School Athletic Association women’s 2-A dual team tennis championship was finally decided on Wednesday afternoon at the Burlington Tennis Center.

Lake Norman Charter, the defending 2-A champion, defeated Salisbury on Tuesday to advance and then wound up winning the state title the following day by a 5-1 count over Durham’s North Carolina School of Science and Math.

Olivia Archer, the number-one singles player for the winners who won her match easily by 6-0, 6-1, was named the Most Valuable Player of the championship. Lake Norman won the five of the six singles matches, with Katherine Li breaking through for NCSSM at number four.

Olivia Archer and her sister Hannah, the number-two singles player for Lake Norman Charter, teamed to win the state 2-A doubles championship in the recent individual tournament.

NCSSM was making its eighth appearance in the state championship match and lost last year to Lake Norman Charter in the finals. The Unicorns have won three previous state crowns but have been the runners-up each of the last three years.

The other three classifications completed their championships on Sunday, one day after the originally scheduled date, due to rain.
