HPU Women’s Basketball Panthers Entertain Greensboro College In Season Opener

HIGH POINT, N.C. – The High Point University women’s basketball team opens its 2015-16 campaign in the Millis Center against Greensboro College on Friday night at 7:00 p.m.

The Panthers are coming off back-to-back 20-win seasons for the first time in the program’s Division I history. On the other hand, the Pride went 24-5 last year en route to earning a spot in the Division III NCAA Tournament.

Panthers Notes:
• Junior Kaylah Keys is the second among active Big South student-athletes in scoring behind Liberty’s Ashley Rininger.
• Keys is fourth in HPU’s history with 134 made 3-pointers she needs four to tie Candyce Sellars (2003-07) for third.
• Keys is 18 points behind Erin Reynolds (2009-13) for eighth on the school’s Division I scoring list.
• With head coach DeUnna Hendrix at the helm, the Panthers are 3-0 in season-openers.
• Eight of High Point’s 13 student-athletes could see their first NCAA Division I game action on Friday night.
• According to a questionnaire sent out by Belmont University, HPU’s coaching staff (combined age of 120 years) is the second youngest staff in Division I behind Houston Baptist (119 year).

Keys 1,000-point Scorer:
Junior Kaylah Keys will be recognized prior to Friday’s game for becoming the ninth player in HPU’s Division I era to score 1,000 career points.

Scouting the Pride:
Greensboro will be breaking in a brand new starting lineup this season after losing all five starters from last year’s squad. Senior forward Alexis Hite is the team’s top returning scorer after posting 6.5 points per game in 2014-15. Junior Marla Crawford is the team’s most experienced guard on the roster after tallying 2.0 assists per game while playing 17.5 minutes per contest last season.

In the team’s exhibition against UNCG on Nov. 5, Hite’s 10 points led the Pride. Meanwhile, freshman Heather Burton posted eight points on 4-of-4 shooting and grabbed four rebounds.

All-Time Series:
HPU is 6-0 all-time against Greensboro College. The most recent meeting came in November 1994 when the only current Panther alive at that time was senior Aariel Allen.

Last Time They Met:
The Panthers and the Pride played an exhibition against each other last season when HPU earned an 81-59 victory. Junior Maja Michalska and sophomore Kat Harris led the Purple & White in scoring with 11 points and 10 points, respectively.
