GREENSBORO, N.C. -The Greensboro College men’s basketball team opened its 2015-2016 season Saturday with an 86-69 defeat against NCAA Division I member UNC-Greensboro.

With the Pride trailing 24-17 with just under nine minutes to play in the first half, Simeon Howard tallied a three-point basket to spark a 7-0 run to tie the game.

Following the Greensboro run, the Spartans then stretched their lead back out to eight points at 40-32 heading into the break.

Just over halfway through the second half, Trevin Miller would pull Greensboro to within 53-50 but the Pride could climb no closer as the Spartans pulled away.

Miller finished the day with a team-high 13 points and seven rebounds, while Simeon Howard and Christopher Corbin each chipped in 11 points. Donavan Griffin also recorded double-digit points with 10.

The Pride won the overall rebound battle, 25-33. Thirteen of the Pride’s rebounds came on the offensive end , resulting in 16 second-chance points.

“It was a game of spurts tonight, and I thought we were right there,” Head Coach Bryan Galuski said. “I really think we have a lot of weapons, and I don’t think scoring the ball is going to be a problem throughout the year.

“This game was a good setup to lead us into a high-intensity game against Guilford College on Tuesday. Overall, I was pleased with our performance, but we have to improve and get better as the season progresses.”

The Pride men (0-1) will travel to Guilford College Tuesday at 7 p.m. to take on the Quakers. For more information on Greensboro College men’s basketball, continue to follow www.greensborocollegesports.com.
