Last-second field goal by kicker Will Johnson(High Point Central HS) lifts Winston-Salem State Rams to CIAA Championship

WSSU Rams top Bowie State 17-14 in the CIAA Championship Game in Durham

from the Winston-Salem Journal at www.journalnow.com with some GreensboroSports.com parts added in:

Kicker Will Johnson(High Point Central High School) nailed a 23-yard field goal with 2 seconds left to give the Winston-Salem Rams the come-from-behind victory. It is just the second time in CIAA championship history a game was decided by a field goal. The win is the Rams’ third league title since 2011 and 11th overall.

I have known Will since he was around five years old and he lost his dad Greg to cancer three years this December…I know Greg would be proud of “Little Will” today…Greg must be looking down on Will with a big smile on his face tonight…I talked to Will’s long-time kicking coach Don Osborne of Thomasville this past week, and told me it was real hard to relay just how proud he was of Will Johnson and Tyler Hunt(Eastern Guilford), the punter and kicker for the (9-1) Guilford College Quakers….Good job by Will, good job Greg and good job Tyler and Don Osborne is in his early 80’s and still kicking and coaching young kickers too…Don Osborne coached them up…
