Elon Football Closes Season With Home Date Against Delaware

ELON, N.C. – The 2015 football season will come to a close for the Elon Phoenix this weekend as the maroon and gold plays host to the Delaware Blue Hens in a noon game at Rhodes Stadium on Saturday, Nov. 21.

Fans unable to attend the game can listen to the game on WSML 104.5 FM and 1200 AM or at elonphoenix.com as David Hibbard and Matt Krause have the call. The radio broadcast will start at 11 a.m. Fans can also listen to all Elon football games via the TuneIn Radio app. This app is free to download to your smartphone.

A free video stream of the game will be available through Phoenix All-Access.

Fans can welcome the Phoenix to Rhodes Stadium for the final time this season during the Phoenix Walk down Bank of America Drive. This week’s walk will occur at 9:30 a.m. Elon will also honor a 20-member senior class prior to the game.

REMEMBERING #10 DEMITRI ALLISON
Elon wide receiver Demitri Allison, a junior, passed away at the age of 21 on Nov. 11. To honor his memory, the Phoenix will wear a #10 patch on the front of its jersey for the remainder of the season. Allison had caught 12 balls for 123 yards this year.

REMEMBERING #44 BOBBY HEDRICK
Former Elon running back Bobby Hedrick ’83 passed away at the age of 57 on Sunday, Nov. 1. Hedrick is one of five Elon football players to have had his number retired and helped the maroon and gold capture the 1980 NAIA National Championship. In that title game against Northeastern Oklahoma, Hedrick ran for 186 yards. He finished his career with 5,604 rushing yards. At the time, only Tony Dorsett (Pitt) had rushed for more yards in all of college football. Hedrick ran for 60 touchdowns and holds program records for career rushing yards, as well as carry marks for a game, season and career. His 5,604 rushing yards are more than 1,200 yards more than any other Elon running back has ever amassed. He was inducted into the Elon Sports Hall of Fame in 1990. A sticker with his #44 will don the Elon helmets for the remainder of the season.

ELON VS. DELAWARE
Elon and Delaware have met only once before. In Newark, Del., last year, the Blue Hens downed the Phoenix 34-24.

OH CAPTAIN, MY CAPTAIN
The Phoenix football squad elected two captains for the 2015 season. Serving as captain for the second year in a row is senior defensive back Miles Williams. He will be joined by first-year captain, junior linebacker John Silas.

Each week the Phoenix will also name a game-week captain and are listed below:

• at Wake Forest – B.J. Bennett
• at Gardner-Webb – Rob Sullivan
• vs. North Carolina A&T – Corey Mitchell
• vs. Towson – Ikenna Nwokeji
• at New Hampshire – Chris Blair
• at Richmond – Warren Messer
• vs. James Madison – David Petroni
• at Stony Brook – Julius Moore
• vs. William & Mary – Chris Jones
• at Maine – Alex Higgins
• vs. Delaware – Alexander Dawson

NOTES FROM LAST GAME
• Elon picked up its third road win of the season, its most road victories since earning three road victories in 2011
• The Phoenix scored a season high 27 points in the win at Maine
• Maine ran for just 69 yards, the fewest allowed by the Phoenix in 2015
• The Elon defense finished the game with three sacks, upping its season total to 22

WITH A WIN…
Should Elon defeat Delaware, the Phoenix would finish the 2015 campaign with an overall record of 5-6 and a CAA Football mark of 4-4. The five wins would be the most for an Elon team since a 5-6 mark in 2011. The last time the maroon and gold posted a .500 or better mark in confernece play was in 2010 when Elon went 5-3 in the Southern Conference.

WINNING ON THE ROAD
Three of Elon’s four victories this season have been on the road. That marks the most road wins for the Phoenix since winning three contests away from home in 2011.
