Miss Babe Ruth Will Deliver Baseball Bat to Greensboro Historical Museum

(Greensboro NC,) Miss Babe Ruth, the Greensboro Grasshoppers’ “bat dog” and the team’s canine mascot since 2006 will deliver several items to the Greensboro Historical Museum on Thursday, November 19 at 10:30. The famous black Labrador Retriever and Donald Moore, President and General Manager of the Greensboro Grasshoppers, will present Babe Ruth’s vest and the last bat she retrieved—that of Austen Smith, the final batter in the Hoppers’ lineup.

For nearly a decade, Miss Babe Ruth retrieved bats and delivered buckets of balls to the home plate umpire. She officially retired on September 2, 2015, after working 649 consecutive Grasshopper games. At the end of the season her ball bucket was presented to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York.

No doubt the beloved Miss Babe Ruth will be missed by players and fans alike, but she will not be forgotten. “The unique story of Miss Babe Ruth is a part of the city’s history that we are excited to be able to preserve and share with visitors for generations to come,” remarked museum director Carol Ghiorsi Hart.

The Greensboro Historical Museum, a member of the Smithsonian Institution Affiliation Program and accredited by the American Affiliation of Museums, is open daily except Mondays. There is no admission fee. For group tour information, call (336) 373-6831. For general visitor information, go to www.GreensboroHistory.org or call (336) 373-2043.
