Late Push Not Enough As Pride Women Fall In Season Opener
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Alexis Hite and Kamerin Williams scored 13 and 10 points, respectively, but the Greensboro College women’s basketball team (0-1) dropped its season opener Wednesday to Guilford College (2-0), 67-56.
With the Pride trailing 16-6, Courtney Pearsal cut the Pride deficit in half with five straight points.
But after that brief Greensboro run, the Quakers established a 45-29 lead by halftime.
With the Pride down 58-42 at the start of the fourth period, Greensboro used a 9-0 run to pull within eight points at 59-51 but could not get any closer. During the run, Pearsal accounted for four points, while Hite and Monica Smalls each recorded one bucket.
“This team is still looking for its identity, and I think we found some of that tonight,” Assistant Coach Jennifer King said. “In the second half we had to push the ball up the court to make things happen as the first part of the game was too slow for our style of play.
“We have to get back to practice and get ready for our next contest against Salem College on Tuesday.”
Pearsal finished the game with nine points. Hite and Williams each pulled down a team-high six rebounds. Marla Crawford finished with a team-high eight assists, while Alyssa Carbone, Bryanna Stanton, Shamara Richardson, Williams, Hite, and Crawford combined for 12 steals.
Anais Weatherly led the way for Guilford with 24 points. Haven Walters and Ymani Breedlove also recorded double-digit points.

Pride Football Places Five On All-Conference Teams
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Greensboro College football team placed five members on the USA South Athletic Conference Football All-Conference Teams, the conference announced Wednesday.
Ray Bridges, Herb Bridges, and Micah McMaster earned first-team honors, while Chase Sams earned second-team honors. Sam Marsh was the Pride’s representative on the All-Sportsmanship team.
Ray Bridges led the Pride in all receiving categories throughout the season. He appeared in all 10 games for the Pride, recording seven touchdowns and 938 yards receiving on 65 receptions.
On defense, Herb Bridges, McMasters, and Sams helped lead a Pride defense that forced 31 turnovers. The Greensboro trio accounted for 18 of the takeaways and a combined 277 tackles.
Marsh was a staple of the Pride offensive line.
