HPU’s John Brown Named Big South Men’s Basketball Player of the Week

HIGH POINT, N.C. – High Point University men’s basketball forward John Brown has been named the Big South Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday.

It marks the first time this season and sixth time in his career that the redshirt-senior has earned the weekly accolade. In addition, Brown garnered Big South Player of the Week honors from CollegeSportsMadness.com on Monday.

Brown averaged 21.5 points, 9.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.5 steals while shooting 57.1 percent (16-28) from the field in a 2-0 week for High Point. The Jacksonville, Fla., native also converted 11-of-15 free throw attempts (.733) on the week.

On Wednesday in a 75-66 road win at CAA foe Drexel, Brown poured in a game-high 23 points (8-13 FG), while grabbing nine rebounds and two steals in 33 minutes on the floor.

In Saturday’s 75-69 home win over SoCon opponent Western Carolina, Brown once again led all players on the floor in points (20) and rebounds (9) while distributing a team-high three assists and making all four of his free throw attempts.

He has now scored at least 20 points in HPU’s last three contests.

Brown and the Panthers return to action Wednesday when HPU battles Georgia at 5 p.m. in Athens. The game will be televised nationally on ESPNU.

About the Panthers: The High Point University men’s basketball team is coming off a record-breaking 2014-15 season that saw the Panthers set new Div. I program records for wins (23), Big South wins (13), road wins (9) and Big South road wins (6).
