Game Report on Southwest Guilford-Southeast Guilford Boys Basketball with Greg Vlazny

Southwest Guilford played hosts to the visiting Falcons of Southeast
Guilford. The Cowboys won last year’s matchup convincingly and were
hoping to keep perfect on the young season. The Falcons came into
tonight hoping to get their first victory of the year. The game opened
up with some sloppy possessions on both sides, but eventually the game
got under way. The two teams traded baskets until it was 4-4.

A Southwest 3 pointer gave the Cowboys the lead for good at 7-4. From
there the Cowboys pushed ahead for a 19-9 lead at the close of the
opening quarter. A Southwest 3 pointer opened up the second quarter
expanding the Cowboy lead to 22-9. The lead slowly expanded despite
the pace of the game slowing done some as the Cowboys doubled up the
Falcons on the frame at 16-8, taking the tally to 35-17 headed into
the break.

The second half was sporadic and inconsistent. Southwest
never really got into a good rhythm but maintained a significant lead
thanks to their quickness and athleticism. Going into the final
quarter the score was 51-28 in favor of the hosts. The final frame was
primarily a chance for the Southwest bench to get minutes. They gave a
good effort and maintained the margin as the Cowboys remain unbeaten
on the young 2015-2016 campaign with a 64-39 victory.

The Falcons were led by Bernard Wright and Isaiah Tate with 10 points apiece The
Cowboys were led by Kaymon Mitchell with 22 points on 9-11 shooting, 7
Rebs, 3 Asts, and 2 Stls. Kam Langley had his second consecutive
double double with 12 points, 11 Rebs, 6 Asts, and 5 Stls. Another key
contributor was Orlando Smith with 10 points, 4 Rebs, 2 Asts, and 2
Stls.
