Balanced Attack Leads HPU WBB To 71-66 Win Over Radford

• High Point advanced to 2-0 in conference play with a 71-66 win against Radford
• Freshman Lindsey Edwards led the Panthers with 14 points and four steals.
• The team has 11 days off for finals before playing VCU on Wednesday, Dec. 16.

HIGH POINT, N.C. – The High Point University Women’s basketball team held off a late push to capture a win 71-66 against the Radford Highlanders in the Millis Center on Saturday afternoon.

With one minute to go and up by three points, freshman Haleigh Hatfield hit a 3-pointer to ice the game. Radford continued to fight back, but sophomore Kat Harris and junior Kaylah Keys combined for 7-of-8 on free throws to seal the victory.

“I’m really proud of the way our kids played today,” head coach DeUnna Hendrix said. “We looked more composed and we looked more cohesive as a unit. I’m excited to have played so well against a very good Radford team and got the win.”

Freshman Lindsey Edwards came off the bench to lead all Panthers in scoring with 14 points including a career-high of four steals. Keys finished with 13 points and Hatfield finished with 12 points and six rebounds.

As a team, the Panthers had a balanced attack with four players scoring in double-digits and collecting 12 steals as a team. Freshman Taylor McGlashan contributed off the bench with career-high eight points and four rebounds. Meanwhile, Harris chipped in with 11 points and four of the team’s 14 assists.

After exchanging lead changes seven times throughout the first quarter, High Point started the second quarter with a Harris three-pointer (21-18, 9:55) and kept the lead throughout the quarter (34-31).

The Purple & White’s lead swelled to as much as nine points (32-23) before allowing an 18-2 run to let the Highlanders back into the game (43-36, 5:45). However, the Panthers responded with a 14-6 run to take a 50-47 lead heading into the 4th quarter.

From there, the crucial three-pointers from Harris and Hatfield and the free throws by Keys allowed HPU to hold on for a 71-66 triumph.

The win moves the Panthers to 3-6 on the year and 2-0 in conference play. They don’t play again until Dec. 16th at home against VCU.
