Pride Women Breeze Past Mary Baldwin To Open USA South Play

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Greensboro College women’s basketball team breezed past the Squirrels of Mary Baldwin College Saturday, 87-45, to open USA South Athletic Conference play.
Greensboro (2-4, 1-0 USA South) quickly jumped out to a 16-7 lead following 10 points by Alexis Hite.
The Pride then extended its margin to 41-14 following a 9-0 run in the second period. Courtney Pearsal, Da Jah Joyner, Janae Gill-Woods, Bryanna Stanton, and Monica Smalls each recorded a basket during the spurt.
Greensboro then established its largest lead of the game at 87-38 before securing the victory.
“This was a very enthusiastic win today,” Head Coach Randy Tuggle said. “We showed that we have several kids that can score for us. Our leaders have been doing a better job of communicating, and that is showing in our progress. The whole pre-conference schedule has prepared us for this point of the season as we start conference play.”
Marla Crawford had a team-high 11 steals to go along with 10 rebounds and 11 assists for her first career triple-double. Hite finished with a team-high 23 points, while Smalls recorded a double-double with 12 points and a team-leading 12 rebounds. Peterson (12) and Pearsal (11) also had double-digit efforts.
Kaybria Johnson recorded a game-high 24 points for Mary Baldwin (0-6, 0-2 USA South).

Men’s Basketball Defeats Maryland Bible College
ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. -The Greensboro College Pride men’s basketball team fended off Maryland Bible College 60-44 Saturday in an exhibition contest at the North Carolina Wesleyan College Roger Taylor Invitational.
The Pride (2-4) opened the game on a 9-0 run. Trevin Miller started it with a three-pointer before Parris Scales scored five points. Joseph Gatling capped off the run with a two-point basket.
Greensboro then established its largest lead of the half at 31-16 following a Nigel Williams three, before going into the break with a 31-21 lead.
In the second half, Zedric Barnett and Miller connected on back-to-back threes to push the Pride advantage to 56-36 before the team secured the 16-point victory.
“I was proud of our effort today,” Head Coach Bryan Galuski said. “It was a team win.”
Barnett recorded a team-high 17 points to go along with two assists. Gatling and Derrick Smith each added eight points.
Following the contest, Simeon Howard and Scales each earned All-Classic Team honors.
