Elon’s Samson Named CAA Men’s Basketball Player of the Week

RICHMOND, Va. – Elon University senior Tanner Samson has been named the Colonial Athletic Association Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, as announced today, Dec. 7, by the league office.

Samson had a career week for the Phoenix averaging 23.0 points, 9.5 rebounds, and 2.0 steals in Elon’s victories over Kennesaw State and FIU. He also finished 13-of-27 from 3-point range, becoming Elon’s all-time leader in made treys.

The native of Littleton, Colo. poured in career-highs of 31 points and 11 rebounds in a 103-93 overtime thriller on Monday, Nov. 30, against Kennesaw State. Samson stole the Owls’ inbounds pass in the final seconds, setting up a pass to Luke Eddy who drained three free throws to cap off Elon’s improbable comeback in the final 18.9 seconds to force overtime.

On the road at FIU on Friday, Dec. 4, Samson scored 15 points on five treys, becoming the program’s all-time leader in 3-pointers. He also grabbed a team-high eight rebounds, while adding two assists and two steals in Elon’s 77-71 victory at FIU on Friday, Dec. 4.

This is Samson’s first-career CAA weekly honor and he is the first player for the Phoenix to earn the accolades this season.

Elon returns to the hardwood on Sunday, Dec. 13, to host the Wesley Wolverines for a 2 p.m. tip in Alumni Gym.
