Jamestown, NC – –

After losing their first game of the season on the road last Friday night and seeing a four game winning streak end, the Ragsdale Tigers were eager to get back in the win column. Tonight’s matchup against the Grimsley Whirlies would be a stern test if the Tigers were to get back to their previous winning ways, as the Whirlies came into tonight’s contest with a 5-1 overall record.

The opening period was close, with both teams hitting several driving baskets. Grimsley would push out to a five point advantage thanks in part to the early play of Mason Moore’s 12 points in the opening period.. The second quarter saw Ragsdale push back defensively, which led to several open opportunities offensively as well. Kyle Watkins scored 16 of his game high (and career high) 30 points in the Tiger’s big 2nd quarter, capped off by a deep 3-pointer in the corner just prior to the halftime buzzer. The Tigers would go into halftime with a 34-24 advantage. After an opening basket and free throw by Grimsley, Watkins and Shawn Stringfellow went to work for the Tigers. Ragsdale would continue to push their lead out, by as much as 16 points in the 4th quarter. Grimsley kept fighting back, but it was too little, too late as the Tigers would get a very good win in front of their home crowd tonight.

Ragsdale was led by Juniors Kyle Watkins double-double (career high 30 points, 11 rebounds) and Greyson Collins (12 points, 3 assists) as well as Senior Shawn Stringfellow (10 points, 8 rebounds). Grimsley was led by Aaron Wiggins (16 points), Mason Moore (14 points) and Austin Inge (12 points).
