NCHSAA Performance of the Week

STUDENTS FROM SOUTHERN DURHAM EARN PERFORMANCE OF THE WEEK AWARDS

CHAPEL HILL — Kaleb Barfield and Jordon Brown of Southern Durham High School have been named winners of the NCHSAA Performance of the Week awards, powered by Time Warner Cable Sports Channel with Jersey Mike’s Subs®.

Each week two athletes in North Carolina High School Athletic Association competition, are selected for this award from nominations received from media and school administrators.

The unusual award is based on the outstanding but differing performances the two Spartan football standouts had in leading Southern Durham to a 19-15 victory on the road against perennial power Northern Guilford to advance to the 3-AA state championship game.

Barfield, a 5-8, 160-pound senior, picked off three passes to stop Nighthawk drives and also had a pass reception for a 44-yard touchdown. Brown, a senior at 5-11 and 190 pounds, shifted to quarterback due to injury to starter Jalen Green and had a terrific game. He rushed for 174 yards and a score, mostly out of the wildcat set, but also completed seven of 15 passes for 139 yards and another TD.

TWC Sports Channel typically announces the winners of the awards during its Tuesday night SportsNight show and will recognize the winners throughout the week. Weekly recipients will also be recognized via Twitter and Facebook.
